COUNTRY HOUSE CUSHION

 In the shade of a cool verandah, dainty blossoms spill from pots and can be seen amongst the leaves of topiary trees on this charming appliqued cushion.

MATERIALS
• 60cm background fabric
• 1 5cm fabric for roof and verandah roof
• 30cm x 1.5cm rectangle of ticking or alternative fabric for the house
• Scraps of fabric for the verandah, door. windows, chimney, topiary trees. pots, blossoms
• 20cm green fabric for trellis
• 50cm square backing fabric for quilting cushion
• Cotton threads for piecing and to match the
applique fabrics

• Quilting thread
• Stranded threads for windows and blossoms
• 45cm square cushion insert
• 50cm square of low-loft batting or Pellon

• Covered piping to finish cushion
• Buttons, velcro or zipper for back closure of cushion
• Paper for patterns (Jenny uses photocopy paper)


 

NOTE:Quantities are given for 100 per cent cotton fabrics, 112cm wide. Wash and iron all fabrics to allow for shrinkage and check for colour fastness.

FINISHED CUSHION SIZE:
 46cm square

STITCHES
 applique stitch, running stitch, french knot, colonial knot, blind stitch (slip stitch). ladder stitch.
